Interested in a bilingual education for your child? Explore Canadian International School’s (CIS) French-English programme at its French Carnaval on 23 November – with a side of cheese, crêpes and kid-friendly fun!

If you would like your child to be a fluent communicator in both French and English, then it’s time to check out the French-English bilingual programme at the Canadian International School (CIS)! This is the only French-English bilingual programme in Singapore that is fully aligned to the IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). Through inquiry-based learning and a global curriculum, the programme helps children build a solid foundation in both languages that will set them up for future success.

Available at its Lakeside campus for students in senior kindergarten to grade 6, CIS’s French-English bilingual programme sees students learn within a 50:50 model. They spend the same amount of time attending classes in English and French, ensuring equal exposure to both languages. Want to know how CIS’ French-English bilingual programme can help your child’s future success? Book a spot at CIS’ French Carnaval on 23 November 2022 to see how CIS successfully educates students to become bilingual, bi-literate and bicultural.

French-inspired activities: Games

“Speaking a language without understanding its cultural context has very little real-world value,” says Dr Xiomara Cruz, Primary Vice Principal and Head of the French-English bilingual programme. “At CIS, we integrate cultural aspects into learning, so students can communicate from a place of understanding, not just say or repeat the words.”

Watch this approach in play at the French Carnaval, where your family will get to experience various French-inspired activities, run by CIS’ French bilingual teachers and students. During the event, you’ll get to build a miniature Eiffel Tower and snap a family picture at the photo booth – be sure to make your carnival masks before that! The fun comes with loads of learning too, reflecting the engaging way of teaching at CIS. For example, one of the activities at the French Carnaval involves tossing a play crêpe and learning about math while recording your scores!

French Carnaval: student-run crêpe café, French cheeses & more!

Families will also get to enjoy famous French cheeses from different regions and tuck into fresh crêpes made to order at the French café, which will be run by bilingual students! This activity offers you a glimpse into CIS’s engaging hands-on learning, where students get to learn outside the confines of a traditional classroom and use the French language in a real-world context. These lessons provide students with the opportunity to understand French culture and language skills and knowledge in appropriate settings. Additionally, you’ll get to hear more about CIS’ French-English bilingual programme from Dr Xiomara and her team of experts, as they’ll be there to answer all your questions.
