Splash out on a staycation at the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore (no need to pay for flights, mama!) and expect a glamping safari your kiddos will never forget!

Need a break mama? Keen for a short getaway but don’t want to deal with flights, passports and heavy suitcases? Why mess with the humidity and mosquitoes when you can take your kids glamping overnight in the air-conditioned splendour of the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore?

Lucky us, we got to try out this special new “Ritz Kids Night Safari Adventures” family package, and we’ve got all the deets for you and your kiddos, mama!

I wanted this staycation to be a surprise for the kids and only told them half an hour before we left that they needed to pack a small bag because we were going to spend the night somewhere else. I thought they would get really excited at the prospect of spending a night in a mystery place but no, they thought it was a weird idea. Somewhat deflated by their reaction I told them we were going to a fancy hotel and that it was going to be very special. That seemed to do the trick and I managed to get them out the door and into a taxi.

As we drove closer they got more and more excited. When we arrived and the staff called them by their name they were ecstatic!

After a few greetings with the staff we got taken up to our room for check-in (in-room check-in is one of the perks of the globally acclaimed Ritz Kids program. My colleague had a similarly delightful experience when she visited the Ritz-Carlton Chengdu with her toddler).

I knew my kids would love their special tent and I couldn’t wait to see their reaction. Sure enough they went nuts! But the surprise didn’t end there. Inside the tent were two little goodie bags complete with sketchbook, crayons and a Ritz-Carlton ‘passport’ to be stamped at various locations around the hotel.

There were also special child amenities in the room such as miniature slippers, robes and their own special bathroom toiletries. And to top it all off there were cookies, gummy bears and marshmallows, too!

After the ineluctable jumping session on the bed and some serious candy eating we decided leave our room and visit the Ritz Kids playroom. Located on the 4th floor at the end of a corridor, the playroom is a suite that has been converted into a library, TV room, arts and crafts area and play area.

It’s a little hard to find and to be honest not the most exciting of places, but kids between the ages of four and twelve years old can enter free of charge (note that they must be accompanied by an adult). It’s definitely a nice option to have in case the weather isn’t cooperating.

Before heading over to Colony for our dinner, the kids wanted to complete their passport with all the stamps needed to claim their prize (ice cream). The map was clear and easy to follow, and they managed to find all the locations in less than 10 minutes.

ritz carlton colony dinner

Dinner at Colony was a highlight, especially for the adults (kids were still high on their sugar rush!). The restaurant has a beautiful buffet made up of seven different conservatory kitchens offering a wide range of local and western cuisines. The Ice Bar, with its fresh oysters, sushi and sashimi was scrumptious. We also loved the Steam Basket that serves delicious soup noodles including an excellent Laksa (thank you, Dawn for the recommendation). The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and we’re already planning to go back!

By chance, we came back to our room just in time to see the Marina Bay light show. We turned the lights off and watched as all of Marina Bay lit up in front of us.  It was the perfect way to end the day.

The kids climbed into their tent and after a few body adjustments fell deeply asleep.

The next morning we all took turns to soak in the enormous bathtub and enjoy the incredible view.  Since we only have showers at home, a bathtub in a hotel is always a big deal, and the Ritz-Carlton’s didn’t disappoint!

Feeling rested and refreshed we headed back to Colony for our breakfast, where we piled our plates high with pancakes and berries. I wish we hadn’t eaten so much the night before because the breakfast buffet was even more tantalizing.

Time flew by and it was time to say goodbye. Now of course the kids didn’t want to leave!

Thank you Ritz-Carlton for such a fun and memorable experience.
