Budget-Friendly Family Travel from Thailand to the Maldives

Did the upcoming bank holidays slip to the bottom of your to-do list, mama?  So often long weekends get flagged in my calendar months (ok maybe years) in advance, but they still sneak up on me and – boom! – we’ve missed yet another opportunity for a fun weekend away.

Eat Play Surf recently came to my rescue with a cheap, cheerful, and oh so family-friendly holiday. It was amazing to discover that not every holiday needs to involve hours of research and planning done by you, mama!

Eat Play Surf is your perfect solution for fuss-free holiday packages at amazingly pocket friendly rates. Think airfare, private transport, accommodations and more all done for you by the friendly staff, who even politely gave me a few follow up calls when, you know, life got in the way of booking a weekend getaway. During the booking process they provided me with suggestions of family friendly destinations, keeping in mind travel time with a small child.  I was even greeted at the airport with a friendly driver who was well equipped with a car seat in tow.

As a new mum (little George just turned 1), it was my first foray into the world of uber-kid-friendly resorts.  I have now experienced my first — the Anantara Si Kao, about 75 minutes from Krabi airport.  This place knows how to keep the kids happy with free afternoon poolside snacks (fried bananas and ice cream- yes, please!), a beautiful all wooden and locally made toy-filled playroom, kids’ day camps, and daily activities where you can drop the kids (well, kiddos 4 years and up, at least).

While the rugrats are happily being entertained by someone else, you can take a dip in the adults only pool or make a much needed booking at the lovely spa.  Rather keep the whole fam together?  We took a boat trip over to the Anantara’s private island beach club where you can take a picnic lunch and soak up the turquoise blue water and white sandy beach.

Eat Play Surf primarily focus on Southeast Asia and Maldives getaways.  Make sure you check out their hard to beat March NATAS promotions, mama, including some great last minute offers for Easter and Labour Day holiday weekends. Do hurry as reservations must be made by 31st March.

I’m talking Easter on the beach for under $600 SGD per person: inclusive of airfare, transfers, 5 star accommodation and all!  If the Maldives have always been on your travel to-do list but the infamously high cost has scared you away, you now officially have no excuse. I’m daydreaming about my next holiday already…

The Lowdown: Eat Play Surf specialise in Family Travel, helping you to decide on the best destinations and resorts to suit your family’s needs. Taking care of your full itinerary and transportation requirements, they leave little for you to do but sit back and enjoy your family holiday.

Vibe: With a budget-friendly focus, their website is worth checking regularly to take advantage of special offers and last minute weekend deals. Such as their current airfare specials to Hong Kong and Bangkok!

Pricing: In most cases children travel for FREE up to the age of 12 for any of their packages. So the only thing you need to purchase for them is airfare. Even though they’re working with only 4- and 5-star accommodations, some of their weekend packages are less than 500 SGD per person including airfare. In addition to their promotional packages they also do tailor-made holidays to fit anyone’s fancy.
