Breakfast lovers rejoice!  Legendary New York pancake purveyor Clinton Street Baking Company has arrived, and breakfast in Singapore will never be the same again.

If you had to choose your last meal, mama, what would you have? Mine would without a doubt be a breakfast smorgasbord: pancakes, waffles and French toast (who cares about carbs because last meal), bacon, poached eggs with salmon, huevos rancheros, biscuits or toast with jam, and maybe some fresh fruit to keep things well rounded.

Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant - Southern Breakfast

In one sense, I’ve already had to select a last meal, as it was quite momentous deciding on a final breakfast spot when we left the restaurant mecca that is New York City back in 2009 to move to Australia. I ultimately settled on Clinton Street Baking Company, known for legendarily epic pancakes and super long brunch lines. New Yorkers, like their food-loving brethren in Singapore, know when something is worth the wait, and Clinton Street nails it. In addition to their fluffy pancakes with maple butter (simply droolworthy) and a plethora of farm fresh egg dishes, they serve up Southern favourites like grits, fried green tomatoes, and chicken and waffles.

It’d been a minute since I’d last had fried green tomatoes (plain old regular tomatoes are generally a disappointment here in Singapore), but I was delighted to discover they were every bit as yummy as I remembered when I visited Clinton Street Baking Company’s new Singapore location last week. Tucked into a shophouse on cosy Purvis Street, it’s meant to evoke the original location on a quiet block on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, and I dare say they pull it off!

Do you know what else they pull off? EVERYTHING. I say without exaggeration that I would happily order every single item on the all-day breakfast menu:

Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant - Eggs Benedict

Buttermilk biscuit sandwich with scrambled eggs, melted cheddar, house made tomato jam, and hash browns? Yup. Huevos rancheros with red beans, guacamole, jalapeno sour cream, salsa picante, pepper Jack cheese, on a house made corn tortilla? Absolutely. Adios, hangover! House-smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with scallion cream cheese, dressed greens and seven-grain toast? You betcha. Those awesome pancakes served with plump, juicy blueberries? Obviously.

The same goes for the sides, too: in addition to the aforementioned tomatoes you’ve got sweet, sticky, crispy sugar cured bacon (delish!), Rosemary pork sausage, sweet potato fries, onion rings, cheese grits and much more. Seriously, I would be totally fine doing one of everything if it didn’t lead to an immediate heart attack.

Singapore’s fairly lacking in solid all-day breakfast options, in my opinion (waffles with ice cream or one egg option do not an all-day breakfast make, at least in America), so you can imagine how delighted I was to see everyone in the restaurant ordering pancakes and chicken & waffles during a busy lunchtime (the house was packed at 1pm, though there thankfully weren’t any queues snaking down the block as I’ve seen on actual Clinton Street).

Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant - selection of pies and cakes

For those who are a bit less breakfast-crazed, they do in fact serve up a solid range of burgers, salads and sandwiches. And then there are the desserts: while their pancake game is obviously strong, Clinton Street Baking Company was also named among the Top 5 Best Pie Spots in New York City by New York Magazine, with good reason. In Singapore I sampled an absolutely amazing Banana Chocolate Cream Pie with pudding filling and graham cracker crust, and might have slipped into a diabetic coma if I hadn’t also wanted desperately to try the Peanut Butter Ice Box Pie with chocolate ganache, whipped peanut butter mousse, graham cracker crust and chocolate shavings. Other top picks include the Blueberry Cheesecake and Lime Meringue.

Oh and by the way, you can also get your calories in liquid form with a choice of any of six milkshakes (including a “Boozy Salted Caramel” with a shot of bourbon). As I already posted on Instagram, the only suitable reaction is a resounding YASSS QUEEN! It’s a great spot to get your brunch on, actually, as they serve up cocktail classics like Mimosas and Bloody Marys, along with fresh-squeezed juices, a handful of American craft beers, and a nice range of wines.

Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant - Chicken & Waffles

Clinton Street Baking Company opens at 8am and serves breakfast until they close at 6pm (take note: the chicken and waffles are only available from 11.30am onwards). I’m still working out how I can go there and eat breakfast for all three meals of the day. For now, I’m just going to methodically work my way through menu, and suggest that you do the same, mama!

Opening hours: Daily from 8am-6pm (last orders at 5pm). No reservations, mama so be prepared to queue!
