Looking for a way to keep the children entertained in the heat or the haze (and still keep cool)? Check out our updated list of the best indoor activity spots in Singapore for kids, mama!
Indoor activities are a big deal in Singapore what with our frequent haze, hot weather and preponderance of shopping malls. A few years ago we rounded up our favourite indoor and soft play spots, but in true Singapore fashion there’s been a flutter of openings and closings since then so we wanted to update you, mama! The list below includes new additions as well as updates on standard bearers with new or closed locations. Of course we still love spots like Amazonia, Fidgets and Kiddy Fun, and are big fans of the imaginative role play on offer at The City! But for now here’s a new list to get you through the hot summer months!
Playeum
This unique, very much hands-on “children’s centre for creativity” at Gillman Barracks is not a children’s museum, and it’s not an indoor play centre, yet it seems to have some of the best qualities of each. Catering to kids ages 1-12, it’s designed to engage and encourage a range of interests through open-ended play via installations, hands-on exploration, creative interactions, workshops and a rotating slate of exhibitions. Playeum is divided into different “zones”, including a soft play area for babies and toddlers, a “dark room” for experiments with light and shadows, a hands-on workshop where kids can make their own creations with recycled materials, and much more!
How much: $20 per child (ages 1 to 12); accompany adult is FREE, and additional adult is $10. Annual memberships also available. Promotional rate for schools and groups: $10 per child.

Blue House Infant and Toddler Atelier
In case you hadn’t heard, mamas, Sassy Mama fave the Infant and Toddler Atelier from Blue House International School has opened up a brand new location at UE Square (tucked away in the lobby of Shell House, just across from the shopping mall). Aimed at kiddos 6 months to 3 years, it’s got unique features like a wind tunnel, a ceiling rainbow of colourful umbrellas, and a custom built light pod and magnet wall, all in a beautiful, sun-drenched space with floor-to-ceiling windows. Very un-mall-like! Both classes and drop-in sessions guided by Reggio Emilia-trained experts are available; check the schedule for updates. And don’t worry, mama, the original (and beautiful) Infant and Toddler Atelier at Turf City is now back following a summer refresh — brand new experiences await!
How much: Rates range from $25 for drop-in classes to $45 for playgroup sessions. Sibling discounts and packages with free perks are also available. Onetime registration fees also apply.

Cool de Sac
Newly-opened since we put together our last roundup, this American import at Suntec City is much more than just soft play (though the Treehouse is pretty awesome). With everything from nail- and face-painting to a LEGO zone and dedicated areas for both ‘tweens and the under-3 set (ideal for crawling babies and toddlers), Cool de Sac backs up their claim that they’ve got stuff to keep the entire family entertained (Bistro Cool is aimed at mums and dads with plenty of kid-friendly fare).
How much: Admission rates range from $10.70 to $27.80 per child, depending on age and day of the week. Babies under 6 months can play for free.

If you find yourself along East Coast Road, mama, pop into this colourful soft play space in Katong V. It says it’s for ages 2-12, but we know plenty of babies who love the ball pit, and the fact it’s on the smaller side makes it less daunting for little ones than some of Singapore’s other indoor play spaces.
How much: Rates range from $10 per hour (for kids under 2 on weekdays) to $30 for two hours (kids over 2 on weekends). Membership packages also available.

Julia Gabriel Centre
Known for its excellent language, writing and drama classes for children in Nursery all the way up through Secondary school, Julia Gabriel’s also got some fab parent-accompanied classes, including the adorable PlayNest for 6-18 month-olds and PlayClub/Bilingual PlayClub for kiddos 18 months to 3 years old. While not an indoor playground, it nonetheless offers wonderful opportunities for indoor play through music, movement, storytime, arts & crafts and much more!
How much: PlayNest is $984.40 per 10-week session (two classes per week); once-a-week PlayClub is $642-$695 per 10-week session; and twice-a-week PlayClub is $1241.20 per 10-week session. Deposit and onetime registration fees also apply.

Kaboodle Kids
We love this bright, airy space at Big Splash that’s very much what kids make of it; with giant foam blue building blocks that encourage imagination (and a bit of engineering savvy), it’s almost like a LEGO set come to life. It’s not a huge space and things can get a little crazy so it’s probably best for kids aged 3 and up, although we have seen babies enjoy the blocks as well during quieter periods.

Little Planet Playland
This cosy brand new spot on Orchard Road emphasises imagination and role play (take climbers and ball pit lovers elsewhere, mama). Kiddos can dress up in costumes, go “fishing”, pick fruit off trees, and even harvest vegetables from a lovely garden on their way to preparing food in a fully stocked kitchen. Perhaps more suitable for slightly older toddlers (2+) as there are lots of items babies might want to put in their mouths!
How much: $25 per child for 2 hours on public holidays and weekends, or for unlimited play on weekdays.

Tanderra
Founded by a Reggio Emilia-trained educator who used to work at Blue House, members-only club Tanderra (which just opened this year) unsurprisingly has a pretty amazing indoor play space of its own. There are four separate play ateliers aimed at kids ranging from 6-18 months all the way up to one for 7-to-12 year-olds, and, best of all for weary mamas, you can drop your kids off for supervised play of 1-4 hours, all under the watchful eyes of trained childcare experts. There’s also a gorgeous playground suitable for kids of all ages. Bear in mind that you need at least a 2-week trial membership to play at Tanderra, mama!
How much: $15/hour for all unaccompanied drop-off sessions. Parent-accompanied “Family Atelier” sessions for children 6 months to 3 years are available at $20/hour per family.

Happy Willow
Joining their original location at Fusionopolis is this new (as of late 2014) location at OneKM Mall. Suitable for ages 9 months to 9 years, this indoor “play garden” is mercifully low on the flashing lights and loud noises you might find at other indoor activity spots in Singapore.

Hokey Pokey
Hokey Pokey recently moved from their central Millennia Walk location out to Seletar Mall in Sengkang. This pleasantly calm, spacious location is particularly suitable for babies and younger kids, and we hear great things about the bouncy castle and mini Thomas the Tank Engine Step2 “roller coaster”.
How much: $26 per child (non-member), with membership packages available.

Kids Amaze
We love these two massive SAFRA spots in Toa Payoh and Jurong – among the largest indoor playgrounds in Singapore – but what we’re really psyched about is the first-of-its-kind in Singapore indoor water playground that’s set to open at the forthcoming SAFRA Punggol Club in 2016. Watch this space for more deets, mama!

The Polliwogs
One of Singapore’s most popular all-around indoor play spots, The Polliwogs recently closed their Robertson Walk and East Coast Park locations, much to our sadness. Fret not, though, mamas, the Suntec City and Vivo City locations are still going strong, and membership play passes remain valid at these locations.
